Nationalmuseum is Sweden’s national gallery, located in Stockholm. For 2020, I initated an international collaboration between the museum and L’Osmothèque, the world’s only historical scent archive, located in Versailles. The project, called “A Fragrant History of Art”, included a series of lectures, guided tours and workshops aimed at merging the world of visual arts with that of perfumery.
Guided tours showcased historical perfumes matched to the paintings of the museum collection, while workshops focused on how perfumery can be understood from an art historical point of view. The inaugural lecture, conducted together with specialists from L’Osmothèque, received an overwhelming response and became the most popular public event since the museum’s grand re-opening in 2018.
