Lecture: With a Scent of Jasmine

Jasmine is one of the most iconic flowers in the perfume industry, with a rich history dating back to antiquity and continuing to the present day. In the perfume industry, two varieties are used—Jaminum grandiflorum and Jasminum sambac—whose sensual and full-bodied fragrance has been employed to enhance everything from religious ceremonies in India to perfumes in the European perfume trade.
In this lecture, you will learn about the history of jasmine, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we will sample both the raw materials and isolated fragrance molecules, side by side with a selection of contemporary perfume interpretations from Nordiska Kompaniet.

On the occasion of NK Gothenburg’s members’ night on March 6, I will be doing a talk together with Daniel Lindström, Fashion Editor at KING and Café Magazine. Together, we will explore the ways in which colors function in the worlds of fashion and perfumery. During the talk, the audience will get to smell a selection of niche fragrances alongside selections from the sping fashion collections. The talk will be held at the menswear fashion department.

The herbaceous lavender is one of the perfume industry’s most beloved and timeless raw materials. Its history extends from the Roman bathhouses to contemporary perfume creation, with an unmistakable scent that has become symbolic not only of the Mediterranean as a geographical region, but also of Western social notions of health and well-being.
In this lecture, you will learn about the history of lavender, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. The iris flower and its powdery-scented roots are among the most expensive and sought-after raw materials in the perfume industry, with its historical production in Italy and France making its fragrance a symbol of the northwestern Mediterranean.
In this lecture, you will learn about the history of iris, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. The blossoms of the bitter orange tree, also known as neroli, are one of the raw materials in the perfume industry most strongly connected to the Mediterranean. Since ancient times, these citrus-scented flowers have added fragrance to everything from gloves and royal bathwater to pastries and cosmetics.
In this lecture, you will learn about the history of neroli, as well as how it is cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we will sample both raw materials and isolated fragrance molecules, alongside a selection of contemporary perfume interpretations from Nordiska Kompaniet.

Her Majesty the Rose is one of the most important raw materials in perfume history and has been cultivated in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe since ancient times. Today, two varieties are used in the perfume industry: Rosa Centifolia and Rosa Damascena.
In this lecture, you will learn about the history of both roses, as well as how they are cultivated and used in the perfume industry. In collaboration with the world-leading raw material producers Laboratoire Monique Rémy and IFF, we will sample both raw materials and isolated fragrance molecules, alongside a selection of contemporary perfume interpretations from Nordiska Kompaniet.

Lecture: With a Scent of Oud at Medelhavsmuseet

The complex perfume ingredient oud holds a central and symbolically important role in the fragrance culture of the Middle East. Today, it is also a common fragrance note in Western perfumery.
In this lecture, you will learn about the historical origins of oud and its sociocultural role in perfume history. Drawing from historical and literary sources, we will journey from the ancient forests of Asia to modern department stores, while sampling both the raw material and traditional as well as commercial perfume interpretations.
